Within minutes of the tragedy at the Boston Marathon, political hacks were openly hoping for an outcome that would support their agenda. On CNN, MSNBC, BBC, NPR etc. the message was clear, “We want to blame it on right-wing extremists.”
Don’t believe it?
Consider the following:
On Salon.com, David Sirota the author of the ‘Occupy’ friendly book The Uprising wrote, “Let’s hope the Boston Marathon Bomber is a white American.” And expressed the desire that the “bomber ends up being a white anti-government extremist.”
The noted filmmaker, liberal, and anti Tea Party activist Michael Moore made the news by Tweeting, “2+2, Tax Day. Patriot’s Day.”
CNN analysts claimed that “extreme right-wing individuals” are fond of the pressure cooker device. No source to this insight were provided.
Obama advisor David Axelrod hinted on MSNBC that the attack could have been a form of tax protest.
CNN’s Wolf Blitzer stated on live television: “It is a state holiday in Massachusetts today, called Patriots’ Day. And who knows if that had anything at all to do with these twin explosions?”
MSNBC’s Chris Matthews also theorized that the bombing could be the result of a protest against federal income taxes. “It’s filing day for the federal income tax, which does cause some emotions around the country – sometimes in the wrong parts of the brain anyway.”
BBC News coverage suggested that “chatter within the intelligence services” indicates that right wing extremists could be behind the attack.” I’m not sure when “chatter” became an acceptable source of news for the BBC.
Former FBI agent Brad Garrett said he wouldn’t be surprised if the bombing had been carried out by a domestic extremist “patriot” group or individual in an attempt to make a statement.
Al Sharpton radio producer Nida Khan also blindly speculated that “all these anti-gov groups” could be behind the attack.

Even a US Forest Service PR rep had something to say, “I fear nutty logic goes like this … Patriots Day. April 15. Tax Day. Bad government. Boston. Tea Party. Let’s show ‘em.”
Actor and comedian Jay Mohr tweeted, “ENOUGH. 2nd amendment must go. Violence has 2 stop. Culture MUST change.” Apparently Mr. Mohr is unaware that the second amendment has nothing to say about pressure cookers and ball bearings. Please stay in Hollywood.
And I could go on…
There is very clearly a desired narrative for these folks. Many of them hold positions in which they can and do influence the perceptions of millions of other people.
But they were wrong. This time.
One day they may get their wish. Some dipshit who holds views they do not like will do something stupid and they will be the first to nod knowingly and say, “I told you so.”
But they were wrong. This time.
Do you suppose any apologies will be forthcoming for slandering an entire group of people who had nothing whatsoever do with the terrible events in Boston?
Don’t hold your breath.
And yet, now that the suspects have been identified as Muslim youths, we will hear nothing from these same “reporters” casting dispersions on Muslims as a group. Nope, in that case they will preach tolerance. And I’m not suggesting that they should do otherwise.
I’m suggesting that they are mighty selective in who they do choose to vilify.
I’m suggesting that they are Ambulance Chasers.
I’m suggesting that they have a story they “want” to tell and are eagerly seeking facts to support it, while downplaying any that do not.
I’m suggesting they should shut the hell up until they know what the heck they are talking about and that for many of them that will be a very long time or perhaps never.
As it turns out the 8 year-old boy who died was the nephew of Massachusetts Tea Party organizer Carlos Hernandez. Mr. Hernandez is more than a little upset at not only the loss of his nephew, but that so many were so eager to speculate that “people like him” might be responsible.
Will Mr. Hernandez receive an apology?
I doubt it.
