McClure’s Magazine goal is to be an alternative news source to the mainstream media. And also to provide commentary and correction on mainstream news, and historical analysis on current events.

In seeking to be alternative news, we had to ask ourselves, alternative to what?

There are many places to get news out there in the world and on the web, some excellent, some horrendous, with most in between. The great in between is the lamestream press.

Mainstream media encourages controversy within a narrow range of opinion. This gives the impression that there is an open debate of the issues, but more often than not, the issue itself is never discussed.

News that falls outside the approved range of discussion is never reported. McClure magazine is ever on the lookout for the stories that fall through the cracks, the alternative viewpoints, independent reporting, and expert analysis from experts that MSNBC is afraid of.

MSNBC Alternative
MSNBC is a propaganda channel for Democratic Party. Hard news is presented, but always with left leaning analysis, and sometimes downright lies and distortions. McClure’s is an MSNBC Alternative.

CNN Alternative
CNN has a near impeccable reputation as a trusted source of news, which somehow remains mostly untarnished despite the numerous scandals of phony props and phony reports. CNN is in reality the “globalist channel,” without allegiance. We are a CNN alternative.

CBS, NBC, ABC Alternative
It is difficult to tell the three apart sometimes, that is part of the reason they were viewed as being ‘unbiased’ for so long, before the rise of conservative talk radio and FOX news. We view them as the lamestream media, who veer to the left through their never ending approval of government solutions to everything and globalist agenda. And waver slightly to the right in their pandering to the needs of corporate America who signs their paychecks. McClure’s Magazine is an alternative to the lamestream media.

FOX Alternative
The saving grace of FOX is that their bias is so well known and so open that it requires little debunking. Although we appreciate the work that FOX does in counterbalancing the overwhelmingly liberal bias of the media, we are not fans of their bombastic style, and blind allegiance to a single political party. Important issues are often dismissed out of hand if they don’t fall within a narrow range between Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity. FOX does have who may be the best journalist in America at the moment in John Stossel though.

PBS Alternative
Desperately trying to appear “centrist,” PBS cannot avoid worshiping at the altar of the state. PBS never saw an issue that more government could not solves, and 90% of the issues that it does see are issues of the left. Even seemingly benign programs like Sesame Street are little more than propaganda for a pro-environment, pro-gay, pro-multiculturalism, anti-family, anti-religion viewpoint. McClure’s is a PBS alternative.

Current TV Alternative
In what may be one of the worst branding moves since New Coke, Current TV will be changing its name to Al Jazeera America. Although Al Jazeera has had an excellent reputation for reporting hard news, particularly in the Middle East where it is headquartered, some of their new hires including liberal crusader Kieth Olberman give us pause in continuing to take them seriously. Time will tell. This is one to keep an eye on.

History Channel Alternative
Those who control the past, control the future. Although the History channel does an admirable job in making history interesting, it also perpetuates half-truths and myths, while leaving key elements out. McClure’s actively seeks out the missing pieces as an alternate news source.

Discovery Channel Alternative
Much like the History channel, Discovery does a great job at infotainment, and we enjoy and learn from much of their programming. But the world-view of the editorial staff informs the selection of topics and often marginalizes dissenting opinions in the interest of brevity.

RT
We like RT. Ironic since it is sponsored by a formerly communist state, but it is perhaps the most free-market friendly and high integrity source of news on TV today. Unfortunately the baggage of past history is not so easily shaken off, and the presence of ulterior motives cannot be dismissed altogether.

As with broadcast media, the print media, and online media is similarly fractured.
